PRESS

Peza do Rei Blanco (2012) - "(70% Godello, 20% Treixadura and 10% Albariño): Pale yellow. Lime, white flowers and honey on the fragrant nose. Mineral-driven citrus and orchard fruit flavors show very good clarity and put on weight with air. Closes juicy and long, with resonating floral and mineral notes and a hint of candied ginger. "

Peza do Rei Blanco (2012) - "This almost clear colored Spanish white blend opens with an Anjou pear and light lemon bouquet. On the palate, this wine is light bodied and nicely balanced. The flavor profile is a mild lime and pear blend with hints of white pepper and minerality. The finish is dry and rather refreshing. This Spanish white wine is food friendly and would pair perfectly with grilled swordfish. Enjoy."

Peza do Rei Blanco (2011) - "A core of tangy tangerine and lime gives this white a bright, juicy character, grounded by briny and mineral notes. Sleek and crisp, with good focus and a clean finish. Godello, Treixadura and Albariño. Drink now. 300 cases made."

Peza do Rei Blanco (2009) - "An exceptional over-achiever, this wine shows more complexity and character than many offered at twice the price, and is also a standout in its versatility with food. A medium-bodied blend of 70% Godello, 20% Treixadura and 10% Albariño, it shows a wonderful balance of substantial weightiness with acidic definition. Notes recalling stone fruits and ripe apples provide deep, lasting flavors in the midpalate, with citrus notes providing cut and definition in the finish. Subtle but very interesting mineral tinges mark the finish, which is persistent and symmetrical. Complete and convincing in every respect, this is so well balanced that it would be wonderful with all sorts of fish and shellfish dishes."

Peza do Rei Blanco (2009) - "The white entry, the 2009 Peza do Rei Blanco is a field blend of Godello, Treixadura, and Albarino. Citrus, melon, honeysuckle, mineral, and nutmeg inform the nose of this smooth-textured, ripe, well-proportioned, lengthy wine. Its firm acid structure will allow it to provide enjoyment for another 4-5 years. It offers outstanding value."

Peza do Rei Blanco (2009) - "This light yellow colored white blend from Spain opens with a wet stone, mild green melon, and gentle lime bouquet. On the palate, this wine is a tasty mild mineral infused green pear. The finish is dry, elegant, and refreshing. This wine is very versatile and food friendly. I would pair it with grilled halibut stuffed with crab. Enjoy."

Peza do Rei Blanco (2009) - "Pale gold. Fresh pear and lemon curd aromas are complemented by notes of chalky minerals and spices. Fresh and precise in the mouth, with good lift and cut to its tangy citrus and orchard fruit flavors. Spreads out nicely on the finish, repeating the pear note and hanging on with good tenacity."

Peza do Rei Blanco (2009) - "Clean, minerally and smooth… The palate is easygoing, while the flavors of peach, pear and apple are boosted by minerality and good acidity. A highly likable, drinkable wine that shows that Galician quality extends beyond Albariño and Rías Baixas. Made from 70% Godello with Treixadura and Albariño. Drink now."

Peza do Rei Blanco (2009) - "Greenish gold. Spicy, mineral-accented aromas of lemon curd, lime, talc and white flowers. Racy and citrus-driven on entry, giving way to richer pear and melon in the mid-palate. Pliant and gently spicy on the finish, leaving behind sappy citrus fruits."

Peza do Rei Blanco (2009) - "From the Enriquez family's 8 acres above a tributary of the river Sil in the far northwest, this mix of Godello, Treixadura and Albariño is dense and polished. Almond oil, chervil, Padrón pepper and lime curd, with an appealing pungency."

Jon Bonné, San Francisco Chronicle, Sep 4, 2011

Peza do Rei Blanco (2008) - "Light yellow. Candied lemon peel, beeswax, resin and a honeyed nuance on the floral nose. Fat but firm-edged, with refreshing cut to the pungent citrus and botanical herb flavors. There's a hint of heat on the back end of this rather powerful and uncompromisingly dry wine but aeration brings buffering sweetness and a subtle, seductive melon quality."

Peza do Rei Blanco (2007) - "The 2007 Peza do Rei Blanco is an unoaked blend of 70% Godello, 20% Treixadura, and 10% Albarino. It exhibits a fragrant bouquet of mineral, floral, citrus, and tropical aromas. Medium-bodied, with baking spice notes emerging on the palate, this concentrated, lengthy wine will drink well for another three years."

Peza do Rei Blanco (2007) - "Pale gold. Dusty citrus and pear aromas are complemented by fresh white flowers and minerals. Light-bodied lemon and underripe pear flavors deliver good flavor punch and clarity, picking up an exotic anise quality on the back end. Clean, racy, fresh wine, with the vivacity to serve by itself or with raw shellfish. This is really persistent."

ADEGA CACHíN / PEZA DO REI WINERY INFO

Overview: The César Enriquez family is among the core group of founding growers of what was to become D.O. Ribeira Sacra, reconstituting their vineyard site to noble varieties from the early 1990s. Peza do Rei is a medieval walled vineyard and woodlands estate taking its name from the Kings of León, for whom it served as an income source and private hunting retreat. Within the extant albeit crumbling medieval walls are eight acres of vertiginous, single-row slate terraces forming a perfect south-facing amphitheater on the Edo River tributary of the Sil. Varieties planted are Mencía for reds, Godello, Treixadura and Albariño for whites.
